South Shore

Where the Sierra Madre falls into the sea — 35 kilometers of cliffside villas, pocket coves, and palapa restaurants, from the Beverly Hills of Vallarta to a village you can only reach by boat.

The South Shore is not a neighborhood. It’s a decision: trade walkable city convenience for panoramic isolation, accept the drive into Centro, and in exchange wake up to uninterrupted ocean and fall asleep to waves instead of nightlife. It begins where the Romantic Zone ends and runs 35 kilometers down a single winding highway — every bend revealing another cove, another cliffside palapa, another hidden beach — until the road simply stops at Boca de Tomatlán and the rest of the coast belongs to the water taxis.

This page travels it the way you will: north to south, out of town. The character changes with every stop — hillside prestige, resort self-sufficiency, film-history villages, and finally a town with no cars at all. One thing has changed everywhere: a decade ago, Tuesday dinner meant a taxi into Centro. Today the corridor has become a dining destination in its own right, and residents quietly stopped making the drive.
